Short Stories from Sydney Street

Jeremy Kirwan-Ward and Helen Smith

- 31 Aug, 2021

Jeremy Kirwan-Ward and Helen Smith are both established artists currently living and working in Sydney. Their works are held in private collections in Europe and Australia.

Jeremy’s work revolves around his connection with a coastal existence, evoking the complexities of weather and the endlessness of spectral phenomena. Although predominantly determined by colour, Jeremy’s paintings are the result of problem-solving, allowing intuition to ride alongside formal structure.

Helen Smith’s simplicity of form and geometric abstraction is influenced by a formal, minimalist view-point. Her oil on canvas paintings, large-scale wall works and a number of ongoing photographic series are derived from Helen’s interest in social and cultural systems.

The paintings included in this online exhibition were recently shown at Gallery 9 in Darlinghurst and are currently available from the Stockroom.
